Holidays

'Twas the holiday season and all was well,
The wind was a'howlin and the snow swiftly fell.
The drifts of the snow were growing up higher,
But we hardly cared from our place by the fire.

The fire, it danced, all merry and cheery,
And as it danced on, our eyes slowly grew weary.
We'd planned to go skiing or sledding, or such,
But now all we wished was to sleep very much.

So we lowered our heads to our pillows and reasoned,
We'll go sledding tomorrow, tis still Christmas season!
So we drifted to sleep with thoughts filled with snow,
And we never suspected what came next, oh no.

'Twas the day after Christmas, and all had been well,
Or rather it had been before all went to hell.
For as we awoke for our wintery fun,
We saw only our cruel vicious rival, the sun.

The snow had all melted while we slept in bed,
And now we could neither go skiing or sled.
We looked slowly up at the blue cloudless sky,
And questioned and wondered and protested "WHY?"

But the sky told us nothing and gave us no cause,
So we looked up forlornly, and then without pause,
We headed inside, and sadly sat down,
And each of our faces was wearing a frown.

Because Holidays come and holidays go,
But they're really no fun without having snow.
Made for a contest titled "The Holidays Gone Wrong", by The Writer's Meow. Interesting prompt. i don't think I did it justice, but I did my best.

Ha! That's great. I love how it mimics "The Night Before Christmas" but also kind of sounds like Dr. Seuss. Very creative.
